Trial:                          Determining the impact of Benzathine penicillin G prophylaxis in children with latent rheumatic heart disease (GOAL trial): Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Presenter:                 A/ Prof. Andrea Beaton

Brief Summary:       This trial aims to determine if secondary prophylaxis with every-4-week injectable Benzathine penicillin G (BPG) improves outcomes for children diagnosed with latent RHD. About the Clinical Trials Fora

The Clinical Trial Forum is an informal discussion which gives researchers a chance to consult a range of experienced trialists, and for MCRI staff to understand other campus research projects. Typically a researcher will present on their project for approximately 40 minutes,  and the group will then provide feedback and discuss strategies to overcome or avoid the common obstacles for Clinical Trials.

The project information presented generally includes:

  • The research question
  • Outline of the intervention
  • What is already known and the plausibility that the intervention would work
  • Why the question is relevant & important
  • Proposed participants and outcomes
  • Trial design
  • Possible issues
  • Preliminary information about logistics i.e. budget, timeline, study design
  • Questions from the audience
